G35 vs G37: Which One is Better and Why?

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Nissan and Infiniti have been killing the Japanese sports car game. The 370Z is a boy racer’s dream, and the G37 is the grown version of the same car. I personally like the Infinitis more, but thats just me.

Either way the G37 can be out of the price range for the average Joe, so you might be stuck with the G35. How do they stack up against each other? Which one is better? What are the differences? Let’s dive right into this article and compare Infiniti G35 vs G37.

G35 vs G37: Visuals

This is the most subjective part of the whole debate. Some people think the G35 is the best looking car in the world, some people think the G37 is the best looking car in the world. From the outside looking in, I think the G35 looks better.

From the rear, the G35 is undoubtedly more aggressive and ultimately much sexier. But the G37 has a way nicer front end compared to the G35’s front end. From the side the G35 looks a little more aggressive, but less elegant.

The G37 is basically designed to look more elegant than the G35.

If you hop on a G35/G37 forum, you’ll also find that most people agree that the G35 is the more aggressive looking car, but the G37 is much more elegant. It really boils down to personal preference.

G35 vs G37: Interior

I’m sure that you’re well aware that Infiniti is the luxury brand of Nissan. That being said, the G35 and G37 are both very luxurious vehicles. But the G35 shows it age especially in the technology department.

Many G35 owners complain about the navigation system, and how it’s very outdated. The G37 comes with a much better navigation system, making it easier to get to wherever you are going.

The G37 is also much more modern, has better seats, nicer leather, a better sound system, and much more.

I’m not trying to say that the G35 has a bad interior, because it actually has a pretty nice interior. Infiniti really stepped up their game when they released the G37, making the G35’s interior incomparable.

G35 vs G37: Engine

Arguably the most important part of any car debate is the power plant. After all, it is what pushes the car around all of its life, so it is kind of important. Ill just go ahead and give you the numbers right away.

G35vsG372

Here are the VQ35DE G35 numbers:

  • Horsepower: 293 bhp @ 6,200 RPM
  • Torque: 260 lb-ft @ 4,800 RPM

Now here are the numbers for the VQ37 G37:

  • Horsepower: 328 bhp @ 7,000
  • Torque: 269 lb-ft @ 5,200

As you can see the G37 makes over 30 bhp more, and 9 lb-ft more than the  G35. I was surprised that the G37 didn’t make more torque than that, as it has a larger displacement.

Numbers aren’t everything though, many G35 owners complain about oil consumption, timing chain tensioners, and various other issues. These issues were all fixed with the release of the new VQ37 in the G37 and 370Z.

To put this all simply, the G37’s engine makes more horsepower, more torque, and is more reliable. That’s not to say that the G35’s engine isn’t good, because it is. It’s just not as good as its predecessor’s.

G35 vs G37: Price

Remember what I mentioned in the very beginning? The G37 might be out of reach for many of us financially. It sucks, but it’s just the way the world works. How much cheaper is the G35? I hoped on Craigslist and started searching. Here’s what I found:

A nice condition G35 with 100k miles or less goes for $9k to $12k. I found some as low as $4k, but they had near 200k miles.

A nice condition G37 with 100k miles or less goes for $14k to $22k. Just like the G35, I found priced very low. The ones priced low could be as cheap as $9k, but with near 200k miles.

The prices in your area may differ a huge amount compared to the prices in my area, so it’s a good idea to research your local prices. Bottom line, the G35 is $5k to $10k cheaper than similar milage G37s.

That’s a pretty chunk of change that can be used for modifications or maintenance.

Which One is Better?

This is really tough decision to make. The G35 is arguable better looking, and it’s cheaper. But the G37 has a better engine and better interior. I like to keep things on a budget so I can spend more on modifications down the road.S

o i’m going to go ahead and say that the G35 is the better of the two. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

  2. Normally id probably disagree with you on which is better considering the year and power of these vehicles… But being for $5K-$10K less for the g35 i could put in new speakers, touch screen radio… Then get headers, exhaust, CAI, and other performance parts… i could probably throw on a few things like a spoiler, body kit, and lower it on coils (not gonna rice it) for the price of the g37… Id probably enjoy it even though more could be gained from the g37, but the g35 is within my budget

  3. Great article. Very accurate indeed. Guy on a 2005 Infiniti G35 sedan AT 5speed. I PURCHASED IT ON CRAIGSLIST IN 2017 4$2, 000. I LIVE IN CENTRAL TEXAS. I LOVE THE CAR AND THE SMALL COMPLICATIONS WITH THE CAR ARE NOT COMPARABLE TO SIMILAR YEAR CARS OF A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER. WE WILL ALWAYS NITPICK BUT BOTTOM LINE IS THESE CARS ARE AWESOME AND HAVE OPENED A WHOLE NEW CAR WORLD TO ME. I LOVE THIS CAR AND I WILL NEVER DRIVE ANYTHING BUT IT INFINITI. PREFERABLY IN A 05 G35 SEDAN LOL

  4. I have not had both. I am lucky G35 owber with 298 hp. 0-60=5,4s. Pretty fast. Buy g37 with auto should be 5,1. G37 has increased fuel consumption. I tead tgat somebody had to change the engine in g37. Some reliability issues. Or last ones called Q40, the most important part in car is engine and reliability other gadgets do not matter much. From 3.7l yoy coyld squeeze 350hp wich g37 does not have. Sad results.

  5. Ok I am here to end all this discussion about which car is better, the G35 or the G37.

The G35 has great looks and a great engine……10 points
The G37 has good looks and a superb engine……10 points.

So they both get the highest rating for a sports car, and you are lucky to have both from one manufacturer. And the Nissans are good too. All good.

    The old Skylines…..good. The old Datuns…..good. Godzilla….good.

    Sentra SPEC-Vs…..good.

    THEY ARE ALL GOOD!!!!

Now go get one!!! Or go take your for a ride.

And don’t forget to change the oil…..and the tanny fluid…..and the brake fluid.

    GOOD!!!!

  6. LOL I just bought a 2011 g37s sedan with 95k miles for 9k from Indiana. It was cheaper to buy it there and have it shipped for another $1400 vs buying here in CA. I just hope the car is as fun as everyone claims it is. Coming from an fg2 civic si, which is like driving an adult-sized go-cart, I’m not sure if my expectations will be higher or lower than they should be. It was a great car for living in San Francisco.
